If you’ve been looking into family photography in Perth, you’ve probably noticed that prices can vary quite a bit.
One photographer is offering mini sessions for a few hundred dollars, while another is charging over $1,000 for a family session.
And if you’re being honest, you’re probably wondering:
“Why is there such a big difference?”
Or maybe even:
“Are family photos really worth that much?”
As a mum myself, I completely understand that feeling.
Family photos are something most mums genuinely want, but they’re also trying to balance mortgages, groceries, school fees, swimming lessons and everything else that comes with family life.
The good news?
There is a family photography option for almost every budget.
This guide will walk you through what family photography typically costs in Perth, what’s included, and how to decide which option is right for your family.

Family photography in Perth can range anywhere from around $200 to $1,500+ depending on the photographer, the experience offered and what’s included.
Here’s a general guide.
| Session Type | Typical Perth Price | Best For |
| Mini Session | $200-$450 | Quick family photo updates |
| Standard Family Session | $500 – $900 | Most families wanting a relaxed experience |
| Full Gallery Session | $900 – $1,500+ | Families wanting every moment documented |
While price is important, it’s also worth looking at exactly what’s included, as two sessions at a similar price point can offer very different experiences.

As an example, these are the collections I currently offer for family, maternity and newborn sessions:
From $1,150
A beautiful way to document both your pregnancy and those early newborn days while saving compared to booking separately.
If you’d like to compare collections in more detail, you can view my complete family photography pricing and inclusions page.
This is probably one of the biggest questions families have.
You’re not just paying for the hour spent taking photos.
Every session includes many hours of work behind the scenes.
This often includes:
Every photographer structures their business differently, which is why prices can vary so much.

Not sure which option is right for your family?
Mini sessions are a great option if:
Full sessions are ideal if:
Personally, I find full sessions allow children the time to settle in and simply be themselves.
That’s usually when the magic happens.

Price is important, but it’s not the only thing worth considering.
Before booking, I recommend asking:
Some photographers include a handful of images, while others include the full gallery.
Instagram shows a photographer’s favourite images.
A full gallery shows what a real client receives.
Having guidance can make the whole experience feel much easier. If you’re feeling stuck, I’ve put together a guide on what to wear for family photos in Perth to help take the guesswork out of choosing outfits.
It’s always worth understanding the photographer’s rescheduling policy before booking.

This is probably the biggest objection I hear.
And honestly, I get it.
Sometimes it’s not that you don’t want family photos.
It’s simply trying to figure out how to fit them in alongside everything else life throws your way.
That’s why many of my families choose to make smaller payments leading up to their session date.
Split payments are available, allowing you to spread the cost into more manageable amounts before your shoot.
The goal isn’t adding pressure.
It’s making it easier to preserve this season before it’s gone.

Only you can answer that.
But as a mum, I know how quickly things change.
The baby rolls.
The missing front teeth.
The way they reach for your hand.
The cuddles before bed.
The stage where they want to be carried everywhere.
Right now, those moments probably feel completely normal.
One day they’ll be the moments you miss the most.
Family photos become more valuable with time.
They’re not really about today.
They’re about creating something your family can look back on years from now.
Every photographer includes different things. Session length, image numbers, editing time, experience, wardrobe access and overall service all contribute to pricing.
Yes. Many families choose to split their payments into smaller amounts leading up to their session date.
If you love variety and don’t want to choose favourites, many families find the full gallery option worthwhile. It allows you to keep all the little moments, not just a select few.
Most families book anywhere from a few weeks to a few months in advance, particularly during spring and autumn when dates tend to fill quickly.
If you’ve been thinking about family photos but aren’t quite sure where to start, I’d love to help.
Whether you’re looking for family, maternity or newborn photos, I’m always happy to chat through locations, timing, outfits and which collection might be the best fit for your family.
The easiest way to get started is by filling out my contact form. I’ll be in touch with availability and answer any questions you may have.
