Booking your newborn lifestyle photographer

Step 1: Enquiry

The journey begins with a simple but pivotal step: the initial enquiry. Reach out to the newborn lifestyle photographers you’re interested in. When searching for your newborn photographer, pay attention to their shoot style and editing style. Each photographer will have their unique style and it is about finding that person that is the right fit for you.

Step 2: Select a Date

A question I hear regularly is when should I book my newborn shoot? Newborns are typically photographed within the first few weeks of their lives, so booking in advance is essential. Due to my documentary style, I personally love to photograph babies any age from a few days old through to 8 weeks old (But anytime is just as beautiful to document, if you are outside of this window). It all comes down to the details you want to capture. In those early days, we will capture more sleepy cuddly shots and their small features. During weeks 3-8 we will see more personality and your baby will be more alert. Most of the images shown on my social media accounts are during weeks 3-8.

I love to schedule based on your due date or planned c-section. As we get closer to the big day, we can always make any necessary changes. I like to keep a manageable number of newborn shoots each month, which gives us the freedom to adjust our plans.

Step 3: Session Fee Payment

After confirming the shoot date, most photographers will require a session fee to secure your booking. This fee guarantees your spot on their schedule and covers their time, expertise, and pre-session preparations. Paying the session fee is a significant step towards turning your vision into reality.

Step 4: Questionnaire

To personalize our shoot, I love to send out a questionnaire. This helps me understand your preferences, family dynamics, and any specific ideas you have in mind. Your answers will shape the shoot’s direction and ensure that the final images reflect your unique story.

Step 5: Session Planning Call

As the shoot date approaches, you’ll likely have a session planning call with me. This call is an opportunity to discuss the details of the shoot, including location, style, and outfits.

Step 6: Home Preparation Email

Preparation is key to a successful newborn lifestyle shoot. I will send you an email with tips on how to prepare your home and yourselves for the session. This might involve creating a comfortable and well-lit space, arranging potential props or clothing, and ensuring that the baby’s essentials are close at hand.

Step 7: Shoot Day

The eagerly awaited shoot day has arrived! Our shoot will be relaxed and intimate, capturing candid moments that highlight the connections and emotions within your family. I will work with your baby’s natural rhythm, ensuring their comfort throughout the session. If you have other kiddos, incorporating some fun activities can be a wonderful way to capture your family’s everyday life in a laid-back manner. Step 8: Post-Shoot Editing and Image Delivery

After our session, I’ll dive into the process of sorting and editing the pictures. This part might take a little while, but within a few weeks, you’ll receive your selection gallery where you can pick your favorites. You’ll also have the chance to explore upgrade options during this time (based on the package you’ve chosen). Once you’ve made your selections, I’ll put the finishing touches on those and deliver the final images.
